The IT industry is a big contributor to carbon emissions, it uses 3.6% of global electricity consumption! But with a few tweaks, we’ve made a significant impact.
Desktops typically use around 60 to 200 watts of energy, while laptops use only 20 to 50 watts. By switching our 468 users from desktops* to laptops, we’ve reduced our energy consumption by 14.8 million watts per week, which is a massive win for the planet.
And, by migrating to Azure, our cloud computing platform, we have also been able to reduce our overall energy consumption by 21.5 million watts per week. That’s a lot of power, and it translates into a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions and our energy bills!
Our total CO2 savings per year is enough to power an electric car around the world 224.48 times!
In addition to the move to laptops and Azure, we’ve also closed several sites as we’ve transition to a more hybrid working model, resulting in a reduction of 73% in our overall carbon footprint.
A massive thank you to the IT team for facilitating our transition which contributes to a cleaner, healthier planet.
*Wondering what happened to our desktops? We work with a supplier that is “Zero Waste to Landfill” accredited. At least 99% of generated waste is diverted away from the landfill and is either reused, recycled, composted or sent to energy recovery.
